Think ‘n Drink: On Eternal Patrol – Discovering the Wreck of USS Robalo
January 5, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Please join us for our January Think & Drink series hybrid presentation, “On Eternal Patrol: Discovering the Wreck of the USS Robalo. ”
USS Robalo is a Gato-class submarine constructed in the shipyards of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Launched on May 9, 1943, Robalo served in the western Pacific Theater during World War II. On July 2, 1944, a contact report stated Robalo had sighted two FUSO Class Japanese battleships with air cover and two destroyers for escorts just east of Borneo. No other messages were ever received from Robalo and when the boat did not return from patrol, it was presumed lost.
In May 2019, diver Neil “Snake” Krumbeck and the Sea Scan Survey Team found the final resting place of USS Robalo. In this hybrid event, Snake will speak on how he discovered the boat in the Balabac Strait, as well as his personal insights into what the final hours of USS Robalo may have looked like.
The featured drink of the night will be the Lake Trial Cocktail, a blue, pineapple, and coconut-flavored slushie.
