Fog Horn Demonstrations at Wisconsin Maritime Museun

June 15 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The sonic boom of a fog horn can pierce through the thickest fog to warn ships of upcoming hazards. From 11:00am-3:00pm on Saturday June 15, 2024, join the Wisconsin Maritime Museum as Historian Jake Heffernan tells the story of the evolution of the fog horn!
Learn about how sirens and diaphones generate sound by chopping the air and how the frequency of the “puffs” of air during operation translate to pitch in our ear. The presentation, which happens hourly, ends with an outside demonstration of a restored Type B diaphone.
Presentation is included with regular Museum admission. WMM Members are always free! For more information on upcoming events, visit our website: https://bit.ly/WMMCalendar
