Introduction to Underwater Archaeology
Come to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum on May 9th from 10 am- 5 pm for a workshop from Wisconsin Underwater Archaeological Association (WUAA) in partnership with Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) based in Portsmouth, UK.
This will be a one day workshop introduction to archaeology with classroom and practical session. The workshop will include topics such as dating methods in archaeology, artifact identification, how current legislation applies to our underwater cultural heritage, and more. While the workshop will be an introduction on underwater archaeology, there will be specific topics related to the Great Lakes maritime history.
By the end of the day participants will:
Have been introduced to the basic principles and scope of maritime archaeology.
Be able to analyze and create 2D scale illustrations of underwater archaeological sites.
Have an understanding of your rights and responsibilities concerning underwater heritage in Wisconsin.
Be qualified to pursue further NAS credits, which apply to future conferences and higher-level training courses.
Cost is $75 which includes specialized training, course materials, and NAS certification card.
