Founder’s Day at Pinecrest Historical Village
Founder’ Day will include demonstrations of historic trades and crafts, speakers, dancing, and activities for all ages.
Learn about groups that founded our Lakeshore community from various organizations including the Friends of St. Patrick and the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society. Visitors can take part in a presentation by “Wheel Fever” co-author Jesse Grant at 1 pm. Wheel Fever is the first book to describe the complex and fascinating history behind the popularity of bicycling in Wisconsin and what was behind Wisconsin’s first bicycling boom. The book is about the origins of bicycling in Wisconsin and why those origins still matter. Grant will describe this history that includes disputes about who should be allowed to ride, where they could ride, and even what they could wear. Copies of the “Wheel Fever” book will be available for purchase. The Wisconsin Bike Federation will also be on site with games and activities for kids.
Put your dancing shoes on and enjoy entertainment from D’Werdenfelser Dancers at 2 pm.
Pinecrest’s historic buildings will feature traditional crafts, activities and presentations. Programs throughout the day include a book signing with Manitowoc author Steve Olson about his latest book about history along the Manitowoc River, wood stove cooking demonstrations, pioneer skills, beer crafting with the Manty Malters, historic games and more.
Food and beverages will also be available for sale.
The event is sponsored by Bank First National. Pinecrest Historical Village is located three miles west of I-43 off CTH JJ in Manitowoc. For more information, please contact the Manitowoc County Historical Society at (920) 684-4445 or visit manitowoccountyhistory.org.
