Book and a Movie/“The Martian”
When the crew of the Ares III Mars Mission is forced to evacuate due to an especially intense dust storm, astronaut Mark Watney is left behind, presumed dead, a casualty of the storm. When the red dust settles, there’s one problem—he’s quite alive. There’s another problem—Watney has no way to contact Earth or his departed crewmates. He has no choice but to use his own resourcefulness to survive on the barren planet until the next mission arrives years later. Both the novel and its film adaptation starring Matt Damon are impressively successful sci-fi epics. So, one huge question remains—which version is more appealing? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema on Monday, September 18th, at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!!
