Book and a Movie/“Unbroken”
“Unbroken” is the biography of World War II hero, Louis Zamperini, written by best-selling author, Laura Hillenbrand. After a near-fatal plane crash in the Pacific during WWII, former Olympian Zamperini spent a harrowing forty-seven days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before being captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a three brutal prisoner-of-war camps for a period of two-and-a-half years. It is also the name of the feature film adaptation of the Hillenbrand novel directed by Angelina Jolie. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, January 20 at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!!
