Badger Talk Two Rivers: “Why Do Birds Sing?” – Cancelled

June 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

This event has been cancelled.  Check Woodland Dunes website for future events.

Join professor Lauren Riters for an exploration on why birds sing at Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve on June 9th from 1:00-2:30 pm. Scientists have long known how birds sing but still question why birds sing. Is it for love? To mark a territory? Or for another reason? This talk will explore those questions and more.

Lauren Riters is a professor in the area of Behavioral Neuroscience in the Department of Integrative Biology at UW-Madison. She received her PhD in Psychology in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Program at Bowling Green State University where she studied how birds migrate and return home from distant locations. This was followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Liege in Belgium and at The Johns Hopkins University where she began to study how and why birds sing.
