From 9:30 am – 1:30 pm, students can learn how to feed, clean, and nurture a baby cow from our Birthing Barn Coordinator: Jill Chybowski! This unique experience will be offered to students in grades 3-5 for $45.

Calf Class experience includes:
– Identification
Similar to a human’s name, farmers give calves unique numbered ear tags to help identify who is who. Get creative and design an ear tag that fits your personality!
– Feeding & Nutrition
After a calf is born, it is essential they are fed colostrum (milk from a mother’s first milking!). Did you know it is important for milk to be at a specific temperature before feeding? Find out why and try your hand at feeding a calf.
– Biosecurity
Sanitation is crucial for a newborn calf’s current and future health. Get down and dirty sanitizing buckets, calf pens, bottles, and even use an ATP Meter to check for any remaining bacteria.
– Health & Care
Just like humans, calves get vaccines and medicine to build a stronger immune system to prevent or fight off any sicknesses. Step into the shoes of a veterinarian and practice different treatment techniques that help keep the calf healthy.
– Genetics
Genes are what make up cows, humans, and every living thing on this earth. Take a closer look at how farmers can predict the phenotype of a cow by using a Punnett square. Will the calf have black and white or red and white spots? You’ll help determine the answer.
